Process Equipment Maintenance Series-Single-Use pH Probe Calibration (Part I)

At present, disposable technology has been very popular, from disposable storage equipment, disposable mixing system, as well as upstream disposable reactor, downstream purification of disposable chromatography, filtration system. Due to the diversity of customer processes, the demand for online detection is also diverse, and disposable sensors and supporting disposable pipeline consumables are also widely used. So,are the disposable pH probes that we often use in our manufacturing process, do they need to be calibrated before use?

, from the perspective of METTLER TOLEDO InSUS, Hamilton Onepferm, Finesse Trufluor pH probes commonly used in the biopharmaceutical industry, because they are analog signal probes, different values will be obtained when the same probe is installed on different lines and transmitters,, the conclusion is that disposable pH probes need to be "calibrated" before use ".This article will describe the operation of pre-use calibration.

Take METTLER TOLEDO InSUS 310 and Hamilton Oneferm pH VP70 Pt100 disposable pH probes as examples. The signal cable connection is engraved with factory calibration values or hung with factory calibration labels: Sensitivity: 58.98 mV/pH, Zero-Point: 7mV. This value is the personalized value obtained by the calibration test of each probe before leaving the factory,Please record this value or save the label before connecting the signal cable, this information will be used for later slope/intercept value calibration operations.

slope/intercept value calibration operation

Before use, the calibration information is input into the transmitter, calculated and saved by the transmitter, and the "calibration" of the disposable pH probe is completed ". Take the common M300/M400 transmitter as an example and perform the following operations--

a.enters the following calibration interface after pressing the calibration button under the measurement interface, and selects the Calibrate Sensor;

B. Select the corresponding channel "CHAN_1" or "CHAN_2", and select "Edit";

c. At this time, the interface for editing the slope and intercept of the sensor as shown in the figure below will appear. Enter the slope value on the sensor at "Slope" and the intercept value on the sensor at "Offset" respectively, then select "Save", and the calibration will be completed after the transmitter performs automatic calculation;

d. if the unit is mV/pH instead of pH when the intercept value "Offset" is input on the above interface, press the "u" button to switch.

will describe the wetting of single-use pH, the process calibration operation to improve the detection accuracy of the probe after the calibration of slope/intercept value, and the commonly used single-point calibration and two-point calibration operations.
